Yerushalayim

Har HazeisimMount of Olives

For three thousand years, Har Hazeisim has been the resting place of the Jewish people — the oldest cemetery in Yerushalayim, and the oldest continuously used Jewish cemetery in the world.

Located directly across the Kidron Valley, Har Hazeisim is the closest Jewish cemetery to Har HaBayis.

It is taught that techiyas hameisim will begin at Har Hazeisim, based on the words of Zechariah HaNavi:

וְעָמְדוּ רַגְלָיו בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא עַל הַר הַזֵּיתִים

v'amdu raglav bayom hahu al Har HaZeisim

"And His feet shall stand on that day upon the Mount of Olives."

Zechariah 14:4

For this reason, Jews across the generations have sought burial on Har Hazeisim above all other places.

Among those buried on the mountain are neviim, rishonim and gedolei Yisroel of every generation, including the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh, whose kever draws visitors throughout the year.

The Mountain Today

Har Hazeisim was desecrated during the years of Jordanian rule and has since been restored. Security on the mountain has been significantly strengthened in recent years, and families visit kevarim there regularly.

Availability

All plots are in-ground, under the open heavens (קבורת שדה). Availability and pricing on Har Hazeisim vary considerably by section. Please contact us to discuss what is currently available.
